Jive was formed somewhere between 1998-1999. The band has been performing
regularly since, and had played at places like Harry's, Robertson
walk and The Riverside. Making jazz accessible to the heartlander,
they have also performed in community venues such as the Orchard
Library and in neighbourhoods like Toa Payoh. Besides music being
the obvious factor in binding them together, they have had renowned
band leader Eddie Sangkup as their band mentor. Not only being a
great saxophonist, he is also an inspiration to them.
Thomson Jive
is like a 'melting pot' in a sense that they have musicians from
diverse ethnic backgrounds and age groups. Diversity not withstanding,
they are a fun loving and extroverted bunch who just love to play.
To date, the band covers a repertoire of swing, ballads, standards
and other popular tunes.
